The company that makes the memory chips inside AI servers just reported a quarter that looks like a typo. Also today: an image model that lets you edit one box at a time, ChatGPT's money tool going free, and a prompt that plans an image before you generate it.

3 stories worth your next 90 seconds
1. Micron reports $54.23 billion in quarterly revenue, up 379% in a year.
The chipmaker took in $54.23 billion in its fiscal fourth quarter, compared with $11.32 billion a year earlier. Full-year revenue hit $133.19 billion, up from $37.38 billion, and Micron guides $61.5 billion for the next quarter. CEO Sanjay Mehrotra ties it to AI, saying memory raises the intelligence and competitiveness of customers' platforms. Read Micron's results.
2. Black Forest Labs lets you edit FLUX 3 images one box at a time.
You drag a box around each element that matters, describe what belongs inside it, and the model renders the result. Boxes sit on a 0 to 1000 grid, and the documentation lists four moves: recolor, replace, move and add. You can also mark anchor boxes to keep a region exactly as it is. Try the FLUX 3 editing demo.
3. OpenAI rolls out its personal finance tool to ChatGPT Free and Go users.
The rollout began October 2 for US users, who can connect accounts through Plaid, which OpenAI says supports more than 12,000 institutions. ChatGPT can see balances, transactions, investments and liabilities, but not full account numbers, and it cannot change anything in your accounts. Disconnect an account and OpenAI says the synced data is deleted within 30 days. Read OpenAI's announcement.

FROM THE FRONTIER
The chips are sold out. The customers are still arriving.
The tiny base. Venture firm a16z notes that as of April, barely 2% of US households paid for any AI service. The number is higher now, the firm says, but still small.
The giant bill. Against that, Micron's quarterly revenue grew almost fivefold in a year. The money flowing into AI hardware is racing far ahead of the money flowing in from ordinary people.
The price test. OpenRouter ran a natural experiment when OpenAI models went on discount. Usage of the cheaper Terra model rose 5.6 times and Luna 13.8 times, while the undiscounted Sol model rose only 1.11 times. Nearly a third of users who tried a discounted model kept using it after the discount ended.
The reframe. Cheap AI gets used, and some of that habit sticks. That is the logic behind putting a finance assistant in the free tier of ChatGPT: the next 98% of households is less a technology question than a pricing question.
IN THE KNOW
What people are actually watching and sharing
The em dash is dying. Graphite's study of Claude Opus 5.5 found its em dash use fell 99%, from 2.92 to 0.015 per 1,000 words. The model still has 2,548 distinctive writing patterns, and phrases like "the most powerful" show up at 24 times the human rate.
Three edits at once. The FLUX 3 bounding box documentation shows one request replacing three objects at once, including a cyberpunk dog and a bird made of a robot.
The market share shift. During the discount window, the Terra and Luna models went from 0.7% to 7.8% of OpenRouter tokens, and three quarters of that gain came from outside OpenAI.
Your finance, your rules. In ChatGPT's finance tool you can delete saved "financial memories" and use temporary chats that cannot access your accounts. Conversations default to GPT-5.5 Thinking.
Next quarter's bar. Micron's own forecast for the coming quarter is $61.5 billion, plus or minus $1.5 billion. That would be another jump of about 13% on a quarter that already set a record.

PROMPT STATION
Turn any image idea into a box-by-box layout
Box-based editors work best when you know exactly where things go, and most people only have a vague picture. This prompt works in Claude, ChatGPT or Gemini and turns a rough idea into a numbered layout with coordinates you can paste into a tool like FLUX 3. Try it on the next product shot or poster you have been putting off.

MY IMAGE IDEA: [DESCRIBE THE IMAGE]
CANVAS SHAPE: [SQUARE, WIDE OR TALL]
Plan the layout on a grid from 0 to 1000 on both axes. List four to six elements, and for each one give a short name, a box as [x1, y1, x2, y2], and a one-sentence description of what goes inside. Mark one region as an anchor that must stay empty or unchanged.
Check that no boxes overlap unless I asked for it, then finish with a single sentence describing the whole image. If my idea is vague, ask me two questions before you plan.
Swap [DESCRIBE THE IMAGE] with something like "a coffee bag on a marble counter with morning light", "a podcast cover with space for a title" or "a sneaker ad with the product on the left". For a sharper result, add the line "Put the main subject in the left third and leave the right third calm for text."
